Smart Curtain Rod Robot – Clip-On Opener for Roman Poles

A smart curtain rod robot that clamps over an existing roman pole and drives the curtain from the Tuya app, Alexa or Google. No track, no re-made curtains and no wiring, with a hand switch for guests who never install the app.

A smart curtain rod that is really a robot: a small unit that clips over the pole you already have, hangs below it, and drives the curtain along the rod. No track, no re-made curtains, no cable to the window.

It is the version for rooms where the pole is the point — a roman pole with rings and finials stays exactly as it was, and the automation is added on top of it rather than instead of it.

It clips onto the pole — there is no track to fit

The arms of the unit close over the pole and clamp there, with the body sitting just below the rod and the curtain’s lead edge clipped to it. That is the entire installation. Nothing is drilled, nothing is removed, and the rings keep running where they always ran.

This matters more than it sounds. Most ways of motorising a roman pole involve replacing the pole, adding a track behind it, or running a belt through the tube. A curtain rod robot does none of that, which is why it can go into a finished bedroom in an afternoon and come out again if the tenant leaves. An automatic curtain rod that can be unclipped and taken to the next flat is worth more to a landlord than a better one that cannot.

Everything visible stays visible

Rings, finials, the finish of the pole — all of it survives. What you add is a white unit at the leading edge, roughly the size of two fists, and that is the honest trade: the pole keeps its look, and the drive is on show rather than hidden inside it.

If the brief is genuinely “nothing visible at all”, no clip-on product will satisfy it and the answer is a recessed track. Say that to the client early; it saves a sample being shipped for nothing.

The app does the work

Pairing is through Tuya, and from there the smart curtain rod behaves like any other device in the house:

  • Position — open, stop, close, plus part-open positions, which is how you leave a curtain half drawn for privacy without shutting the room down.
  • Schedules — open at waking, close at dusk, different times at weekends if the household wants it.
  • Scenes — the rod joins the same Tuya scenes as the lights and switches in the room, so “goodnight” closes the curtain as well as dimming the lights.
  • Status — charge level and room conditions are reported in the app, so a facilities team can see a unit before a guest does.

Alexa and Google, not one or the other

This model carries both badges: works with Amazon Alexa and with Google Assistant. In practice that is the difference between a product you can specify once and one you have to check against every client’s ecosystem.

“Alexa, close the curtains” runs through the same Tuya account as the app, with no separate hub to add to the bill of materials. A smart curtain rod that only speaks one of them is a specification problem waiting for the second room.

The hand switch — the feature guests actually use

The unit does not lock the curtain. A hand pull still moves it, and the unit carries a hand switch for starting it directly, so a guest who has never installed an app is not stuck with a curtain they cannot close.

For hospitality that is not a nice-to-have. It is the difference between a room that works on day one and a call to reception at 11pm.

Light and temperature triggers

Two automations sit alongside the schedule: a light trigger that closes the curtain when the window gets bright, and a temperature trigger for rooms where the curtain is doing thermal work as well as privacy work. A west-facing bedroom with an air conditioner in it is the case both were written for.

Both are optional. A smart curtain rod that only ever answers the app is a perfectly normal configuration.

Double curtains: one robot per side

A centre-opening curtain is two leading edges, so it is two units — one on each side of the pole, meeting in the middle. They pair to the same account and can be set to move together or independently.

Specify the pair together, not one now and one later: two units bought months apart can arrive with different firmware, and a matched pair is easier to commission.

Which robot for which room

  • This unit — the smart curtain rod for roman poles only, app plus Alexa plus Google, hand switch. The cleanest fit when every window in the project has a pole.
  • The 3-in-1 smart curtain robot — one unit that covers a T-track, a U-track and a pole with interchangeable adapters, and comes with a handset. Choose it when the project mixes tracks and poles.
  • The handset-only robot — no app, no network. For a spec that says no Wi-Fi in guest rooms.
  • A motorized curtain rod — the drive is built into the pole, so nothing hangs below it, but the pole is supplied new and cannot be retrofitted onto an existing one.

Questions buyers ask

Will it fit my existing pole?

It clamps over the pole, so what matters is the diameter and that the pole is straight and of consistent thickness. Send the diameter and a photograph of the pole end and we will confirm before quotation. A tapered or carved pole is the usual reason we say no.

Do the rings have to come off?

No. The unit clamps over the pole between the rings, and the rings keep running. The curtain’s lead edge is clipped to the unit so it travels with it.

Can I still open it by hand?

Yes. The unit carries a hand switch and does not lock the curtain, so it can be started manually — which is what makes it usable in a guest room where nobody installs the app.

Does it work with Alexa and Google at the same time?

Both are supported through the Tuya account. A room can have an Alexa speaker and a Google display on the same unit without choosing between them.

How is this different from your motorized curtain rod?

Different product, different job. The motorized curtain rod has the drive built inside the pole and is supplied as new hardware — nothing shows below the rod. This robot clamps onto a pole that already exists, so it retrofits, and it is visible. If the pole is already on the wall, this is the only one of the two that can be added.

How long does a charge last?

It depends on how often the curtain moves and how heavy the fabric is, so we quote it with the unit rather than publish a figure that will be wrong for half the rooms. The app shows the remaining charge.
