Curtain Motor – Mini Low-Voltage Drive Unit for Motorized Tracks

A compact curtain motor that fits the end of an existing curtain track and drives the gliders through a gear coupling. Powered by an external low-voltage adapter, so there is no mains wiring and no electrician. Button control on the housing; handset and smart module optional.

A curtain motor that fits a track you already own. This is the small drive unit that sits at the end of a standard curtain track, engages the gliders through a gear coupling, and turns a manual rail into a motorised one — without replacing the track, the brackets or the curtains.

Retrofit, not replacement

Most motorised curtain projects fail on one detail: the track is already up. Replacing a sound aluminium rail because it has no motor is the expensive way to solve the problem. This unit is built for the other way — keep the rail, add the drive.

  • Existing track stays — no re-drilling, no patching, no new brackets.
  • Curtains stay — the gliders are already in the channel; the motor drives them.
  • One unit per track — a single motor at one end runs the whole run on a straight profile.
  • Reversible — remove the housing and the track is a manual rail again.

What is inside the housing

The body is deliberately small. An electric curtain motor that hangs below the track is one you notice from the sofa; this one is sized to sit in line with the profile, so from the room you see the rail, not the hardware.

  • Smoke-tinted cover — protects the drive and the electronics while showing the mechanism underneath.
  • Red drive gear — the coupling that transfers motor torque into the track channel; it is the part that decides whether a retrofit feels smooth or jerky.
  • Low-voltage input — an external supply rather than mains voltage inside the housing, which is what keeps the body this compact.
  • Single control button — on the housing face, for setup and manual operation without the handset.

Low-voltage plug-in power, no electrician

The drive runs from an external low-voltage DC adapter on a flying lead. That one decision is why this can be a DIY job: there is no mains wiring inside the track, no ceiling rose to open, no certificate to chase. Plug the adapter into a wall socket, run the low-voltage lead along the wall or ceiling line, and connect it to the housing.

Where the socket is nowhere near the window, the low-voltage lead can be extended — it is a low-voltage run, not a mains circuit. Plug types are supplied to match the destination market.

Fitting it to the track end

  1. Align the housing with the end of the track so the gear sits against the drive channel.
  2. Clip the mounting plate over the profile — the plate keys into the track end and holds the unit square to the run.
  3. Close the cover and connect the low-voltage lead.
  4. Pair and test — run the carriage to each end stop once so the motor learns the travel.

Straight runs only. A corner, a bay or a run longer than a single track section needs a different drive — the 2–6 m adjustable motorized curtain track system is built for those.

Control

Every unit works from the button on the housing: press to open, press to stop, press to close. For daily use the handset is the practical option. A smart curtain motor is the same hardware with a wireless module added: Tuya / Smart Life, then Alexa or Google Home, with sunrise and sunset schedules.

Group control is a platform feature rather than a motor feature: several units pair to one account and close as a single scene, which is what hotels and showrooms actually ask for.

Where a mini curtain motor earns its keep

  • Retrofit flats and rented property — motorise without touching the landlord’s track.
  • Hotels and serviced apartments — repeatable fit across identical rooms, one SKU in stores.
  • Showrooms and meeting rooms — timed or remote operation on a glass wall without a visible cord.
  • Track makers and assemblers — supply the drive as a component and ship a motorised system without developing one.
  • Replacement and repair — a failed motor on an installed track is a swap, not a new rail.

Every order ships as a complete curtain motor kit — drive unit, mounting plate and power adapter — or as component-only supply for track assemblers.

Rated voltage is confirmed per SKU and market — we do not assume one rating across our track motors.

Dimensions, load rating and wireless protocol are confirmed against your track profile and curtain weight before production — a retrofit motor is only as good as the gear match to the rail it drives.

This motor is one of four ways to motorize a window. If you are still deciding between a track-end drive, a clip-on robot, a drive inside the pole and a lit track, the comparison is here: motorized curtains, four ways to do it.

Will this curtain motor fit my existing track?

It fits tracks with a matching end profile and a drive channel the gear can engage — which covers most standard aluminium rails. Send a photo of the track end and the internal channel width and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Do I need an electrician?

No. The motor runs from an external low-voltage adapter that plugs into a normal socket. There is no mains wiring in the track and nothing to connect at the ceiling.

Can it be controlled by remote or app?

The unit works from its own button out of the box. A handset is the usual addition, and a smart module adds Tuya / Smart Life app control plus Alexa or Google Home where the project needs it.

How heavy a curtain can it move?

It depends on the gear ratio and the track, so we rate the unit against your curtain weight per panel and the number of panels rather than quoting one number for every rail. Send the fabric weight and we will spec it.

Is this the same as buying a motorized curtain track?

No. A motorized track is a complete system — rail, drive and control supplied together. This is the drive unit on its own, for a track that already exists or for a manufacturer assembling one. If you are starting from nothing, the DIY motorized curtain rail kit is the faster route.
